Legislative Update: Investment Advisers May be Subject to New Requirements Under New Law
On July 15, 2009, the Obama administration introduced proposed legislation, the "Private Fund Investment Advisers Registration Act of 2009," that would require hedge fund managers, in addition to managers of private equity and venture capital funds and family offices, to register with the Securities and Exchange Commission ("SEC") as investment advisers. Miller & Martin attorneys Scott McGinness and Paul Jullienne have offered some additional insight on what will change as a result of the new legislation.
