Susan Steelman concentrates her practice primarily on health care law. Ms. Steelman advises clients on regulatory and transactional health care matters, including fraud and abuse compliance and investigations, privacy and security of health information, Medicare and Medicaid coverage and reimbursement, and risk management and insurance issues. She has extensive experience in dealing with fraud and abuse analyses, including Stark, Anti-Kickback, and state self-referral laws, HIPAA, HITECH, and federal and state privacy laws, day-to-day hospital operational issues, compliance committees and programs, hospital risk management and insurance, contract drafting and negotiation, hospital and physician relationships, joint ventures and management agreements, recruitment of physicians, physician group practice and compensation issues, medical staff bylaws and credentialing, clinical trials and human subject research, licensure, certification, and accreditation, including Joint Commission survey preparation and CMS and state audits, employment issues, third-party payor and managed care issues, and Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues.

Ms. Steelman has advised a broad range of health care clients, including hospitals and health systems, physician groups, pediatric facilities, surgery centers, diagnostic centers, rehabilitation facilities, clinical research institutions, occupational health clinics, clinical reference laboratories, managed care plans, and women's hospitals. In connection with counseling clients, Ms. Steelman frequently addresses emerging issues, such as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA).
