Jay Elliott concentrates his practice on labor and employment. He represents a number of major employers in handling employment discrimination, harassment, and retaliation complaints and claims filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and similar state agencies. Outcomes for lawsuits which have gone to trial include a defense verdict in a potential nationwide class action alleging various wage and hour violations against a nationally-known casual dining restaurant chain, a jury verdict for the employer in a 'whistleblower case' filed by two former employees against a large soft drink bottler, and a declaratory judgment in a noncompete/restrictive covenant case involving a propane gas distributor which was appealled and affirmed by the Tennessee Court of Appeals. Mr. Elliott has also successfully defended several large employers across the country in various labor-related matters, including union campaigns (most recently in NM, MD, NY, VA, MN, and TN), labor arbitrations (CT, KS, OH, MI, and NY), and unfair labor practice charges (TN, MA, OH, and MN). Mr. Elliott founded and leads the Cleveland Area HR Roundtable, a group of select Human Resource professionals in the Cleveland, Tennessee area that meets quarterly.
