Opportunities for Service
The firm takes substantial pride in the meaningful roles that its lawyers have played and are playing in significant positions in civic, governmental and quasi-public bodies. Miller & Martin attorneys serve their communities in various capacities, such as serving on and chairing boards of educational institutions, foundations and charitable organizations. Our lawyers are involved in responsible community service, touching everything from children's issues, education and the arts, to leadership positions with the Chamber of Commerce. This involvement of Miller & Martin lawyers in community service provides a means by which associates may pursue their own interests in virtually every area of community service.
Our lawyers contribute regularly to legal and other scholarly publications, teach at law schools and participate as speakers in numerous professional seminars and workshops. Our members are and have served as presidents of state and local bar associations and continue to chair important sections and committees. Marcia Eason and Katie Edge have both served as the President of the Tennessee Bar Association. Bryan Cavan currently serves as the President of the Georgia Bar Association.
In addition to its involvement in a wide range of bar associations and civic organizations, Miller & Martin strongly encourages all of its attorneys to participate in Pro Bono matters for individuals who are unable to afford legal services. This representation typically involves litigation in the areas of landlord/tenant, guardianship, bankruptcy, domestic relations and general civil matters. Attorneys who do not practice in litigation volunteer their time in other ways, including interviewing and referring potential pro bono clients, participation in fundraising activities and serving on the local bar's pro bono committee. |
